After completing the massive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Uttar Pradesh government has shifted its focus to preparations for the upcoming Census 2027.

With the final electoral rolls set to be published on Friday, the administration has already begun gearing up for the next large-scale exercise. Chief Secretary SP Goyal has directed officials to create a verified digital database of nearly 5.5 lakh enumerators and supervisors within a tight deadline.

He also stressed the importance of public awareness and timely execution, ensuring that the process is carried out without any lapses. Authorities have been instructed to conduct comprehensive training sessions for all personnel between April 16 and May 7. Special focus will be placed on accurate data collection in densely populated regions, urban areas, and slum clusters. Notably, the entire census process will be conducted digitally.

To enhance public participation, a ‘Self-Enumeration Portal’ will be launched from May 7 to 21, allowing residents to enter their family details independently. A large-scale awareness campaign will accompany this initiative to encourage maximum participation.

Meanwhile, Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, who recently reviewed preparations in the state, highlighted the significance of census data in shaping the country’s development roadmap. He emphasized that the exercise should be treated as a mass movement involving widespread public cooperation.

The house-listing phase of Census 2027 is scheduled to begin on May 22. Ahead of this, a refresher training program for field trainers was conducted at a Municipal Corporation headquarters, attended by officials assigned to census duties. Participants were briefed in detail on key aspects of the operation.

According to Director of Census Sheetal Verma, the process will be carried out in two phases. The first phase, focused on house listing, will run from May 22 to June 29, 2026. The second phase, involving population enumeration, is scheduled from February 9 to February 28, 2027.
