Former WINNER member Nam Taehyun found guilty in DUI case, sentenced to 1 year in prison - Report

Famed actor Nam Taehyun, best known for his roles in ‘Under The Black Moon Light’, ‘After School’, and ‘Late Night Restaurant’, has been found guilty in his ongoing DUI case. He is also popularly known as a former member of the Kpop group WINNER. According to the latest reports, the idol has been charged in relation to the case and sentenced to spend the next 1 year in prison.

Nam Taehyun sentenced to prisonAccording to the latest report by the Ilgan Sports outlet, the actor has been sentenced to 1 year in prison regarding his ongoing DUI investigation. The final verdict, which was served to him by Judges Yang Eun Sang and Heo Jun Seo of the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court on April 9. The verdict also dictates that he pay an overall fine of KRW 1.00 million, which roughly amounts to USD 676.

Taehyun was officially found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol and directly breached the Road Traffic Act.

Why was Nam Taehyun sentenced to 1 year in prisonThe Judges also explained the reasoning behind the 1 year prison sentence as per the report. They cited that the fact he was a repeat offender and had earlier been apprehended for driving under the influence was taken into consideration.

Furthermore, the recent crime had also occurred while the idol was already serving probation for an older drug charge, where he had violated the Narcotics Control Act.

More about Nam Taehyun’s caseLast April, Taehyun crashed his vehicle into the median area of a road on a bridge. No one was hurt at the time; however, when authorities investigated, they found his blood alcohol content was 0.08%, well beyond the permissible limit.

His previous DUI charge, which was considered when deciding the verdict, happened in July 2023 when he drove under the influence, and was fined KRW 6.00 million. He was also sentenced to 1 year in prison, along with a probationary term, as well after he was found guilty of using methamphetamine in January 2024.

At the time of writing, neither the idol nor his legal representatives have issued any new statement about the matter.
