Kerala Elections Kick Off with High Spirits
The elections in Kerala commenced with great enthusiasm as voters, including notable celebrities and political figures, queued up early at polling stations throughout the state. Among the first voters was actor Mohanlal, known for his role in Drishyam 3, who arrived ahead of the official polling time in Thiruvananthapuram. His co-star from Patriot, Mammootty, was also seen at the voting center. The event saw participation from other actors like Suresh Gopi and Prithviraj Sukumaran, who also voted early. Senior political figures, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Opposition leader V D Satheesan, emphasized the significance of this election.
Kerala Votes 2026: Early Voting by Mohanlal and Others
The polling day in Kerala kicked off with excitement as veteran actor Mohanlal cast his vote at Mudavanmugalil School in Thiruvananthapuram at 7 am. Dressed in a simple white shirt, he patiently waited in line at Booth 36 in the Nemom constituency, arriving even before the official start of voting, showcasing his dedication to civic responsibility.
After casting his vote, Mohanlal took to social media to encourage citizens to participate, expressing that he had fulfilled his duty and urging others in Kerala to do the same. Mammootty was accompanied by his wife, Suflath, during his visit to the polling station.
Numerous other prominent personalities from the Malayalam film industry also exercised their voting rights. Suresh Gopi voted at Guruvayoor, while Prithviraj Sukumaran and his wife Supriya cast their votes at Thevara Fisheries School. Renji Panicker voted at the Kadavanthara YMCA, emphasizing the resilience of India’s democracy. He remarked that democracy thrives through both favorable and challenging circumstances, noting that India’s democratic framework is commendable compared to other nations that gained independence around the same time.
Political Leaders Discuss Election Significance
Political leaders from various parties also participated early in the voting process and shared their insights. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan voted in Kannur with his family, labeling the election as vital for Kerala’s future, highlighting the need for continuity, development, and reduced corruption under the Left Democratic Front (LDF). He expressed confidence that voters would back the government’s achievements.
Opposition leader V D Satheesan called on citizens to ensure a high turnout, deeming it essential for a robust democracy. He anticipated a strong mandate for the United Democratic Front (UDF). Union Minister Suresh Gopi and BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar also voted early, both expressing optimism about potential political shifts in the state and underscoring their party’s efforts to enhance its presence in Kerala’s political arena. Voting commenced across Kerala with a remarkable display of enthusiasm, with over 2.71 crore voters eligible to participate in selecting the next government. Polling stations were bustling with activity from early morning, as individuals from diverse backgrounds arrived to cast their votes.
