In 2023, a troubling incident from a village in the Bilsand area of Pilibhit district raised significant concerns among locals. The case involved a widow and her brother-in-law, leading to a police complaint.
The woman reported that her husband had passed away some time ago, and she lived with her daughter. On a Wednesday afternoon, while she was bathing in the bathroom, her brother-in-law allegedly climbed over the wall and entered the house. According to her complaint, he entered the bathroom, attempted to assault her with ill intentions, and when she resisted, he reportedly tried to strangle her with her dupatta and slapped her.
Coincidentally, the woman's daughter returned home from school during this ordeal. Hearing the commotion, the accused fled but not before threatening her life. The woman stated that when she attempted to go to the police station, her father-in-law intervened, trying to suppress the matter by claiming it would not happen again.
The complaint further alleged that when the woman refused to settle the issue, both her father-in-law and brother-in-law physically assaulted her and also attacked her daughter when she tried to intervene. The two men escaped when the noise attracted attention.
This incident was part of a series of reported cases in 2023 involving alleged criminal acts within familial relationships. Further actions were to be taken based on investigations and evidence, but this event became a notable part of the district's crime history.
