India’s statement on Iran-US ceasefire: ‘Welcome the ceasefire’, expressed important hope regarding Hormuz.

New Delhi: The first reaction of the Indian government has come to light on the ceasefire between Iran and America after 40 days of tension. India welcomed this ceasefire and called it a positive step towards peace in West Asia.

The Ministry of External Affairs has expressed hope that this decision will bring stability in the region and the impact on global trade will also improve. India has made important comments especially regarding unhindered movement through the Strait of Hormuz.

MEA welcomed the ceasefire

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in its statement,"We welcome the ceasefire that has been agreed upon. We hope that this will establish lasting peace in West Asia. We hope that uninterrupted freedom of movement and flow of global trade will continue through the Strait of Hormuz."

Emphasis on negotiation and diplomacy

The Ministry of External Affairs further said,"It is hoped that this decision will establish peace in West Asia. As we have stressed earlier also, it is necessary to reduce tension to end the ongoing conflict as soon as possible. For this, negotiation and diplomacy are extremely necessary."

India’s concern over the Strait of Hormuz

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the ministry said that due to this conflict people had to face huge difficulties and global energy supply and trade was affected.

"With the ceasefire between Iran and America, we hope that uninterrupted freedom of navigation and flow of global commerce will continue through the Strait of Hormuz."

Trump had announced ceasefire

US President Donald Trump had announced this two-week ceasefire through Truth Social, after which hopes for relief have increased at the international level.

Indian Embassy advisory issued

The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued an advisory for Indian citizens advising them to exercise caution and leave the country.

Highlights of the advisory

  • Indian citizens present in Iran are advised to leave the country as soon as possible.
  • Appeal to use only prescribed safe routes.
  • Do not proceed towards any international border without contacting the embassy.
  • In case of any emergency, contact the embassy through mobile number or email.
