Fans of I'm a Celeb were left in tears as Craig Charles opened up on his health issues. The Red Dwarf star shared that he is on "so much medication" for his heart.
He was sitting around camp with his co-stars on the ITV show as he said he was getting a headache, sparking the conversation. The 61-year-old admitted: "I'm on so much medication right, and I can't say the words. I can't say them at all." He named some of the tablets that he takes before bursting out laughing. He then added: "I'm on about eight tablets every day." Inquisitive Heart Radio star Ashley Roberts then asked what they were all for. That was when Craig admitted: "I've got four stents in my heart... The arteries in my heart were narrow. It's the same thing that killed my brother when I was here last time." He continued: "They told me 'this is genetic, you need to go and get that looked at'. And then my wife, Jackie, was in Galway visiting her parents and I was at home.
"I gave her a ring and said 'I'm going to have a lie down, I don't feel great. My jaw's like tingling'. Anyway, her sister-in-law is a nurse and she said 'tell him to ring an ambulance.' So I didn't because you don't want to go in the bloody ambulance on your own do you, to the hospital? And she was coming home in the morning."
Craig then said that he waited for his wife to come home but when she did, she "got on the phone" where they said that they thought he was having a heart attack as an ambulance was sent for him.
But being the funnyman that he is, as always, the Corrie star injected some humour into his tale. He said that the ambulance dispatcher asked what colour he was, to which his wife replied: "He's brown".
He told his campmates: "So by now I was having a heart attack, but I was laughing my socks off at the same time!"
Speaking more about the procedure for the stents that he had done in the hospital, the actor continued: "They put a wire in which is attached to a balloon and then they blow the balloon up and stick a stent in. It goes all the way up into your heart and widens the artery.
"Apparently, I was existing on only 35% blood to my heart, and when they put the stents in, it went to 100% blood to my heart. So they saved me."
Craig then touched on his brother's death once more, explaining that he had passed out in his own dressing room while alone. He was just 52 at the time.
Fans of the ITV show were heartbroken listening to him. Taking to Twitter/X, one viewer shared a sobbing GIF as they wrote: "#ImaCeleb I just want to wrap my arms around Craig. What a great guy he is."
Another added: "Really feel for Craig. Would love to see him win this. 52 is no age these days, my cousin unexpectedly passed the other week aged just 53. #ImACeleb."
One more said: "Awe Craig I had no idea he had heart problems himself the same that killed his brother [heartbroken emoji] #ImACeleb #imacelebrity."
