Mahindra Automotive has commenced the deliveries of the second batch of the BE 6 Batman Edition in India. The company, in order to reassure the first batch of owners, has publicly stated that the second batch of 999 units of the BE 6 Batman Edition will be the final lot, and there will be no more production of this SUV. This brings the total number of Mahindra BE 6 Batman Edition to 1,998 units.
The post announcing the commencement of deliveries of the second batch of the BE 6 Batman Edition has been shared on Instagram by the company. It stated that, apart from the deliveries, they are also “acknowledging the sentiments of the founding members” and are confirming that the second batch represents the final 999 vehicles. The BE 6 Batman Edition has now become a “close-knit” community of 1,998 vehicles.
For those who may not be in the know-how of what is going on, a number of the first batch owners of the Mahindra BE 6 Batman Edition recently started complaining online after the company announced that they are going to offer a second batch of 999 units of the BE 6 Batman Edition. The first batch, which was sold in just 135 seconds, was marketed as a strictly limited-run model.
Due to this, there was a huge hype, and all the units were sold in the blink of an eye. After the announcement of the second batch, many owners stated that they are feeling cheated by Mahindra, and the exclusivity of their vehicle has been diluted. Many owners also highlighted that the production of the second batch has dropped the value of their cars.
As a solution, Mahindra Automotive recently introduced a full buyback scheme for the first batch of 999 BE 6 Batman Edition to the owners. It stated that the scheme would be valid for 30 days from the communication date, and customers must contact their respective dealerships to opt in. Mahindra added that this scheme was intended as a goodwill gesture to maintain long-term relationships.
However, when the owners of the first batch went to the Mahindra dealerships, they were told about the terms and conditions of the full buyback scheme. They were told that they will only be receiving the full refund of the ex-showroom price of their car. This means that any costs to accessories, RTO/registration charges, insurance, loan foreclosure penalties, and Paint Protection Films will not be included.
Due to this, many owners complained that even with the full buyback, they will face significant financial losses. And they added that the buyback is just for namesake. These owners also complained that the scheme is a “punishment for trusting the brand” and that they paid for the “limited edition promise,” which has now been broken.
The Mahindra BE 6 Batman Edition became so popular due to its limited availability and its collaboration with Warner Bros. This SUV has taken inspiration from The Dark Knight Trilogy, and it is one of the few Batman-themed production cars globally. The Batman Edition is based on the BE 6 Pack 3 variant, and the first batch was priced at Rs 27.79 lakh, and the second batch was priced at Rs 28.49 lakh.
On the outside, the Batman Edition boasts a satin black exterior with gloss black accents, Batman logos across the body, and 20-inch aero blade wheels. It also gets Alchemy gold detailing as well. As for the interior, it gets an all-black cabin with gold elements, a numbered Batman plaque, and suede and leather upholstery with Batman emblems.
