In the latest development, two innocent children have lost their lives in a horrific bomb attack carried out by militants. After this heart-wrenching incident, tension has reached its peak in the valley areas. To prevent the situation from getting out of control and to stop the rumours, the state government has taken immediate action. 5 sensitive districts Internet services have been suspended. The entire area has been converted into a cantonment and the army and paramilitary forces have intensified the search operation.

Children were playing when the attack happened

According to the information, this attack took place when the children were playing near their house. Children became vulnerable to the explosion of mortars or improvised bombs fired by militants. Several other civilians are also reported injured in this attack, who have been admitted to a nearby military hospital. There is huge anger among the local people over this cowardly attack and protests have started on the streets of Imphal.

Digital ‘blackout’ in these 5 districts

In view of the serious law and order situation, the Home Department Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur Mobile internet and data services have been banned in the districts. The government believes that spreading inflammatory messages and fake news through social media can further incite violence. This suspension will continue for the time being till further orders. The administration has appealed to the people to maintain peace and not pay attention to any kind of rumour.

‘Combing operation’ of security forces started

Manipur Police and Central Security Forces have cordoned off suspicious areas where the attackers are suspected to be hiding. Hilly and border areas are being monitored through drones and helicopters. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has strongly condemned the incident, terming it a ‘terrorist act’ and has assured to arrest the culprits as soon as possible. The conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities that has been going on in Manipur since May last year has taken hundreds of lives and displaced thousands of people.
