New Delhi. Today is going to be recorded in golden letters in the pages of history for half the population of the country. The long-awaited 33% reservation bill for women has been given the green signal in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After this big step of the government, the picture of politics is going to change completely. According to the information, this bill will be introduced in the special session of Parliament starting from April 16.
The equation of seats will change in Lok Sabha and Assemblies
The main objective of this historic bill is to secure 33% seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. If sources are to be believed, the government is going to make a major amendment in the Constitution so that women’s reservation can be completely strengthened legally. The special thing is that this reservation will be fully implemented from the Lok Sabha elections of 2029. Along with this, a new Delimitation Commission will also be constituted on the basis of 2011 census.
Number of Lok Sabha seats will increase
A shocking information has come to light under the new provisions. Following the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission, the current 543 Lok Sabha seats can be increased to 816. The main objective behind this increase in seats is that the 33% reservation quota for women can be easily fitted without disturbing the existing seat ratio. This will not only provide opportunities to women, but will also increase the scope of electoral constituencies.
PM Modi made a big announcement in the election rally
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hinted at this masterstroke while addressing an election rally in Barpeta, Assam on April 6. He had clearly said that 33% reservation for mothers and sisters in Parliament and Assemblies will become a reality by the 2029 elections. The PM described it as a fight for women’s rights through the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’. He said emotionally that the women of the country had been waiting for this right for the last 40 years and now his government is fully prepared to give it a legal form.
Women have a big role in building a developed India.
The government believes that this is not just a reservation bill, but a mission to bring women into the decisive role of policy making and running the country. During the special session, the bill to Delimitation Commission will also be presented, so that proper adjustment of seats can be done. This step will not only make the democratic process inclusive but will also open new doors for social and political equality in the future. The government is now going to use all its strength to get this bill passed in the Parliament.
