BCB Election Controversy: Bangladesh cricket has been tainted by fixing allegations. An investigation has found that voters were intimidated before voting.
Bangladesh cricket is tainted by fixing.
Controversy continues to plague Bangladesh cricket. Bangladesh Cricket Board elections were held in October last year, and allegations of irregularities were initially made. Following these allegations, the Bangladesh government formed an inquiry committee. The committee's investigation report revealed that last year's BCB elections were rigged, voters were intimidated, and there was also bias. The five-member committee, led by former Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, submitted its investigation report to the Sports Ministry on Sunday.
According to the investigation report, the e-voting process held in October was pre-planned. Voters were reportedly gathered at a single location on October 5, 2025, the day before the election. National Sports Council Director Mohammad Aminul Ahsan stated in a press conference on Tuesday that the election process was not fair, transparent, or independent. Voters were intimidated before the election.
The committee reported that several senior BCB officials were unwilling to cooperate with the investigation. Last week, former BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul stated in an interview that he had not given an interview to the committee and had submitted his response in writing.
NSC Director Mohammad Aminul Ahsan stated that the government has found sufficient grounds to dissolve the Bangladesh Cricket Board, headed by Aminul Bulbul. Following Bulbul's removal as president, an 11-member committee has been formed, headed by former cricketer Tamim Iqbal. This committee will oversee the BCB's affairs for the next three months. Iqbal is the interim president of the BCB, who accused Bulbul of abusing his power before last year's elections.
