A BEML statement said the two public sector entities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Wednesday to establish a framework for cooperation between the two organizations, focusing on jointly identifying, pursuing, and executing metro rail projects.

“Building upon this order for the supply of metro coaches, the agreement is envisaged as an export-oriented partnership, marking a strategic transition from a supply-driven model to a comprehensive EPC-based approach under a single umbrella,” the company said.

The association with DMRC would further strengthen BEML’s presence in the rail and metro sector, Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director at BEML LTD said.

“BEML’s capabilities in manufacturing rolling stock, combined with DMRC’s expertise in the execution and operation of metro systems, would enable the two organisations to offer comprehensive, competitive, and globally benchmarked solutions,” Roy said.

The understanding between the two organisations is aimed at exploring areas of mutual interest and fostering collaboration in the field of metro rail systems.

While metro train services is a goal for this partnership, Vikas Kumar, DMRC’s Managing Director also highlighted the urgent need for the development of indigenous propulsion systems for rolling stock. He stressed the importance of indigenously designed and manufactured Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) for upcoming infrastructure projects such as high-speed rail, metro systems, and Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS).

“Both organisations should work jointly towards developing indigenous TBMs by combining DMRC’s technical expertise and vast execution experience with BEML’s world-class design and manufacturing capabilities,” Kumar said.
