Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal will be reuniting on screen with their upcoming horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film will be released on April 17, 2026. In a recent interview, Rawal spoke about his experience of working with Akshay and Priyadarshan again. The trio has previously teamed up for various hits like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
Rawal told PTI, “It was a lot of fun to be back. You look forward to certain things in life. Sometimes, when you work with such good people, your journey is very good. This kind of company increases your haemoglobin. Your health improves.”
Talking about Bhooth Bangla, Paresh said that the film is different from Bhool Bhulaiyaa even if both films have been shot at the same location Chomu Palace and present similar vibes in trailer.
The actor said, “The interesting thing about this one is that there is going to be a marriage and the ghost is staying at the place. You can just imagine what will happen. I would say that this is a beautifully shot horror film. You haven't seen such a beautiful horror film.”
Along with Bhooth Bangla, Priyadarshan is also expected to collaborate with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal on Hera Pheri 3. However, the film got surrounded with numerous controversies even before it went on floors. From Paresh Rawal’s tiff with Akshay Kumar to legal battle over the remake rights, the fate of Hera Pheri 3currently seems far from easy.
Apart from the legal issues over rights of the film, Paresh Rawal had reportedly exited the film after announcing the same on social media. Following that, Akshay Kumar had moved to court against him, seeking Rs 25 crore in damages. But the matter was subsided quickly after Akshay withdrew the case.
Rawal subsequently returned to the project. He also opened up about his equation with Akshay after the friction. He said that there was no ‘bad blood’ between them.
He said, “It (the issue) was not about friendship. There was never any stain on it. But it happens. Sometimes, when you are so close, you tend to take things for granted. But there is no bad blood.”
The original Hera Pheri, released in 2000 and directed by Priyadarshan, was a remake of the 1989 Malayalam comedy thriller Ramji Rao Speaking.
Phir Hera Pheri, released in 2006, came next. Directed by Neeraj Vora, it was the remake of the 1998 English black comedy crime movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
