Brits basking in the glorious April sunshine will want to make the most of it as it won't be hanging around for long, with temperatures forecast to plunge by a massive 10C in some areas. Today (April 8) is on track to be the warmest day since September 19, 2025, when temperatures peaked at 27.8C at St James's Park in London with the mercury at levels of around 10C above average for early April.
By 4pm it will be hotter in London than Cairo in Egypt and Athens in Greece, according to BBC weather maps. However, the balmy weather won't be hanging around for long, as the Met Office says tomorrow night "will feel notably colder than recent nights, with a risk of frost in some areas". The forecaster says showers will become "more widespread" with "temperatures falling markedly compared to Wednesday". Netweather senior forecaster Jo Farrow says a northwesterly flow will follow Thursday's cold front, sending temperatures plunging.
Rain will move in along the fronts, followed by showers, and with airflow coming down from near Greenland, the mercury will drop by 10C.
From the incredible warmth of 26C, London is forecast to see temperatures fall to 15C on Friday. South Wales will drop from 22C to 12C, Yorkshire will go from 22C down to 11C, and Aberdeenshire will record a drop from 18C down to 8C.
The Netweather senior forecaster said: "This has been an incredible week with Storm Dave on Saturday night, the Easter Sunday snow and then this surge of incredible early April warmth.
"By the end of the working week, frost is likely and snow for the Scottish mountains."
WXCHARTS weather maps show the sharp temperature drop, turning a noticeably chilly blue.
The maps show that at around 6am on Friday, temperatures could drop to as low as -2C across large parts of Scotland, and just a couple of degrees higher elsewhere.
The far north of England could struggle to get above freezing, with temperature lows ranging from 0C to 4C across much of the country.
The Met Office weather forecast for Friday until Sunday says: "Unsettled throughout Friday and the weekend, with further bands of rain and showers.
"Some drier and brighter interludes developing in-between with temperatures near or occasionally a little below average."
