One of the biggest talking points around IPL 2026 has been Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) opening batter has made the headlines not only for his brilliant batting but also for a rumor that could see him turn out for Mumbai Indians (MI) very soon.
The teenage star caught the eye with a sensational knock in Guwahati in a rain-shortened affair where he hit a 14-ball 39 with five sixes, including two off Jasprit Bumrah. That fearless approach has made several believe that he might not be with the larger franchises of the league too soon.
Rumor Gains Momentum After a Social Media Post
Sooryavanshi's possible move away from the Royals has only gained further traction after a massive comment from former BCCI selector Jatin Paranjape on social media which has since gone viral.
"Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will play against his future team tonight," Paranjape commented on X and the ensuing debate is now on in full swing.
While the Royals are known for identifying and nurturing talent with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag being perfect examples, they have also shown willingness in letting go of big names that include the likes of Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson over the years which further adds more fuel to the ongoing rumors.

The Potential 30 crore Price Tag
Sooryavanshi was roped in by the Royals for 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction which looked like a standard transfer back then. However, after the recent phenomenal knocks that he has played in the league so far it seems to be a bargain, and many predict him to shatter records if he enters the auction now.
A figure hovering around 30 crore, the first ever in IPL history, is expected if a team is willing to go all out for the promising youngster and Mumbai Indians, who historically invest a great deal in young talent, would definitely be a contender for his services having shown their hand when they managed to rope in Hardik Pandya.
There are broadly two scenarios by which he could potentially shift base: one is through a trade, which could occur before or in the course of a season, and the other is through the IPL 2027 mega auction.
With Sooryavanshi only continuing to impress, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that RR will be able to retain him against a potential onslaught from some of the biggest franchises and there are clear indications that it might just be a matter of time before the young talent is seen playing in a Mumbai Indians jersey.
