Relationship between stress and overeating
In today’s fast-paced life, people start feeling stressed over small things. Some people have work pressure, while others have to face family responsibilities. It is natural to have stress sometimes, but when it increases, it can have a negative impact on health. Stress also affects daily life, such as irritability in the office or not wanting to talk to anyone. Apart from this, there is a change in eating habits also.
Causes of overeating under stress
hormonal imbalance: During times of stress, the level of cortisol hormone increases in the body, which increases appetite. Eating your favorite food increases serotonin levels, which reduces cortisol and makes you feel relaxed after eating. Therefore, people tend to eat more during times of stress.
lack of sleep: Due to lack of sleep, the body feels lack of energy, due to which the attention goes towards eating. Many people believe that eating food causes sleep.
Habits of eating when sad: Many people have the habit of eating sweets during times of stress or sadness. In any problem, the mind gets attracted towards those things which provide comfort.
Ways to avoid over eating
The desire to eat increases due to stress. In such a situation, instead of junk food, eat healthy snacks, such as dry fruits.
Mindful Eating: Eat food after chewing it thoroughly. This will make you feel satisfied. Do not eat food while watching TV or mobile.
Do favorite activities: Instead of stress eating, engage in other activities, such as taking a walk, listening to music, breathing exercises or meditation.
Share your feelings with someone during times of stress. Sometimes sharing your feelings brings relief to your mind.
