Sita Navami 2026: 24 or 25 April, when is Sita Navami? Know the date, auspicious time and method of worship

Sita Navami 2026 Date: According to the Panchang, the ninth date of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month has special spiritual significance. We celebrate this day as Sita Navami or Janaki Jayanti. According to religious beliefs, on this auspicious date in Tretayuga, Mithila king Raja Janak received Mother Sita from the land while plowing. There is confusion among some people regarding the date of Sita Navami in the year 2026. Let us know on the basis of Udaya Tithi on which day Sita Navami is falling this year and what is the puja method.

Sita Navami 2026 date

This year, the Navami Tithi of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha is starting on 24 April 2026 at 07:21 pm. This date will end the next day i.e. 25 April 2026 at 06:27 pm. According to the scriptures, fasts and festivals are calculated from Udayatithi i.e. the date present at the time of sunrise. Since Navami Tithi will be present at the time of sunrise on 25th April, hence this year the festival of Sita Navami will be celebrated on Saturday, 25th April only.

Auspicious afternoon time of Sita Navami

Mother Sita appeared in the afternoon, hence it is considered best to worship her in the afternoon. The most auspicious time for puja on 25th April will start from 10:58 am to 01:34 pm. Devotees will have approximately 2 hours 36 minutes time for worship. The results of worship and chanting mantras done in this special auspicious time are manifold.

Sita Navami worship method

On the day of Sita Navami, one should wake up in Brahma Muhurta and take bath by mixing Ganga water in some holy river or at home. After this, take a resolution to fast and set up a post in the north-east corner of the house. Spread red cloth on it and place the idol or picture of Lord Ram and Mother Sita. Offer wedding items like vermilion, bindi, bangles and red chunari to Mother Sita. During the puja, the mantra Om Shri Sitaayi Namah or Shri Janaki Ramabhya Namah should be chanted continuously. Offering sweets made of pure ghee or saffron rice to the Mother Goddess is very fruitful. Perform Aarti again in the evening and break the fast the next day on Dashami Tithi.

Mythological significance of Janaki Jayanti

The importance of Sita Navami is not limited to just one birth anniversary. Mother Sita is considered to be the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, who is the embodiment of patience, sacrifice and purity. It is said that on this day, any woman who observes a fast with full devotion and worships Goddess Janaki, is blessed with a happy married life and good fortune. Besides, the blessings of Lord Shri Ram are also obtained because the worship of Ram and Sita is considered incomplete without each other.
