Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge has raised sharp questions while opening a front against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Addressing an election rally, Kharge raised questions on the functioning of the central government and central agencies and asked why the corruption allegations against Himanta Biswa Sarma are not being investigated. This statement of Kharge has come at a time when Assam Police has intensified raids by registering an FIR against Congress leader Pawan Kheda on charges of fake passport and documents.

Mallikarjun Kharge took a jibe at BJP and said that the leaders who appeared ‘corrupt’ while being in other parties, get washed clean in the ‘washing machine’ as soon as they join BJP. Referring to the old cases of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he alleged that the agencies are being used only to suppress the voice of the opposition. Kharge asked, “If opposition leaders can be raided, then why are those who are in power being given immunity?”
