There are only a few weeks left until the full force of spring welcomes an abundance of blooms into gardens. Beautiful blooms like hydrangeas will be showing signs of new growth, but if you're looking to give them a boost to help them thrive, a gardening expert recommended doing three small tasks now to help.

Gardening expert and TikTok creator Ish explained that there are three incredibly easy tasks that will benefit your hydrangeas when they flower. So anyone with a hydrangea in their garden, should definitely not miss these jobs. In a recent video, he said: "If you want your hydrangea to absolutely thrive this year, then there's only three steps you need to take around about now to make sure you do it right."

Hydrangeas should be showing signs of new growth by now. However, if there are a small number of stems that aren't displaying new growth, Ish explained that these may as well be snipped off.

If you find that the stems without any growth at the top of the plant, simply cut them just below the last node. Giving hydrangeas a quick prune will help redirect energy away from the old leaves toward the new leaves.

After pruning, the gardening expert advised fellow gardeners to introduce a slow-releasing feed to the soil the hydrangeas are planted. You can use feed pellets or the likes of bloodfish or bone.

Apply the feed around the base of the stem and generously water it in.

The last thing you'll want to do is add a generous amount of mulch around the plant as well. Either use multipurpose mulch, compost or bark, and apply it around the base of the plant.

Ish explained: "The idea is, you want to hold as much moisture in the ground. So, they like good-draining soil, but they also don't mind clay soil which is thriving in moisture.

"So keep them nice and wet, and as a result, they'll be really happy. If you follow those three steps, you'll have some amazing blooms in your hydrangea."

Ish explained there are a few things to remember when caring for your hydrangeas: a good amount of moisture in the soil and partial sun exposure.
