Shiv Shankar Savita- Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai died on Wednesday morning at the age of 94. She was suffering from age diseases for a long time. According to his family, his last rites will be performed today at around 5 pm at the Nizamuddin graveyard in Delhi. His demise has sparked a wave of mourning in the country’s politics and an important chapter of a long public life has come to an end. Mohsina Kidwai was one of the few leaders of Indian politics who made a strong mark at both the state and central levels. He held the responsibility of many important ministries as a Union Minister in the government of Rajiv Gandhi. In her political career, she was a member of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and her active participation in the Parliament was always in the news.

Born in Banda in 1932, had a special connection with Uttar Pradesh

Born on 1 January 1932 in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, Kidwai gave importance to education and social concerns since childhood. Her early education took place in Women’s College, Aligarh. She was married to Khalilur Rehman Kidwai in the year 1953, after which she started playing an active role in social and political life. Her political journey started from Uttar Pradesh, where she served as a member of the Legislative Council from 1960 to 1974. After this, she was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly from 1974 to 1977. During this period, he held important posts in the state government like Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Minister of Harijan and Social Welfare and Minister of Small Industries. His working style and decision-making abilities established him as a strong and influential leader.

Fulfilled many important responsibilities in the central government

His contribution at the national level was also very important. She was a member of the sixth and seventh Lok Sabha and held many important responsibilities in the central government. He served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Labor and Rehabilitation, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Later he was given independent charge of the Ministry of Rural Development. On 31 December 1984, he took charge as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare (Cabinet) and showed his efficiency. He also had a strong hold in the Congress organization. She was the President of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee from 1976 to 1980 and was re-appointed to this post in 1982. Apart from this, she was also a member of the Congress Working Committee and Central Election Committee. His image within the party was that of an experienced and guiding leader.

Along with politics, there was contribution in social fields also.

Along with politics, he also made notable contribution in the field of social service. He took many initiatives for the empowerment of women and children. She was associated with initiatives like the establishment of educational institutions in Barabanki, literacy centers for women and “Bal Jagat” for orphans. His life was dedicated to the upliftment of the weaker and deprived sections of the society.
