3 reasons why KKR should drop Cameron Green from their starting XI in IPL 2026

Kolkata Knight Riders have begun their Indian Premier League 2026 journey on a worrying note, and several issues have quickly come to light. One of the biggest concerns revolves around their high-value signing, Cameron Green, who has yet to live up to expectations.

The Australian all-rounder has managed only 24 runs in three innings, leaving the Ajinkya Rahane-led side without a win. After spending heavily on him at the auction and moving on from Andre Russell, the franchise expected an immediate impact. Instead, his performances have added to the team’s struggles.

His difficulties were evident again in the rain-hit game against the Punjab Kings, where he could only score four runs before being dismissed by Xavier Bartlett. With pressure increasing, KKR may have to take a hard call regarding his place in the XI.

1. Urgency leaves no room for extended backing

While teams often show patience with key players, KKR are in a position where they need results immediately. Green came into the tournament with question over his fitness, inconsistent white-ball form, and the burden of a massive price tag.

Beyond the numbers, his lack of confidence is noticeable. His body language suggests he is not at ease, and he has yet to find any momentum. With the middle order already struggling and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi stepping up, KKR cannot afford to wait indefinitely for a turnaround.

2. No impact as an all-rounder

Green’s batting returns have been disappointing. Even after being given chances at the No. 3 slot, he hasn’t delivered meaningful contributions.

Equally concerning is his absence as a bowler. Due to restrictions from Cricket Australia, he hasn’t been able to contribute with the ball. This removes a key aspect of his role and reduces his overall value to the team.

3. Bench strength offers better options

KKR are not short of options, which makes the decision easier. Tim Seifert and Rachin Ravindra could provide flexibility and bring a fresh dynamic to the lineup.

Seifert, despite being an opener, has the ability to adapt to different positions and could slot into the middle order if needed. Ravindra, meanwhile, offers the advantage of left-handed batting along with part-time spin, adding balance to the side.

KKR could also reshuffle their batting order by promoting Rinku Singh or Raghuvanshi, while introducing more firepower in the lower middle order with options like Rovman Powell. These adjustments could help address the team’s current shortcomings.
