A Bengaluru court has issued an interim order temporarily halting the release of Kannada film ‘Boss’ following a plea by actor Darshan, who alleged that the film draws inspiration from the ongoing Renukaswamy murder case involving him.
Interim relief granted by court
The film, which was scheduled to hit theatres on April 14, has been stalled after the court granted an ad interim injunction in favour of the actor on March 27. The matter has now been posted for further hearing in May.
Allegation of resemblance to ongoing case
In his plea, Darshan reportedly contended that the storyline of the film bears resemblance to the high-profile Renukaswamy case, raising concerns over potential prejudice and misrepresentation while legal proceedings are still underway.
The court took note of the submissions and deemed it appropriate to grant temporary relief until a detailed hearing is conducted.
Legal and creative concerns intersect
The development highlights the sensitive intersection between ongoing criminal cases and creative expression in cinema. Courts often exercise caution in such matters to ensure that ongoing investigations or trials are not influenced or prejudiced.
Awaiting next hearing
With the interim stay in place, the future of the film’s release will depend on the outcome of the next hearing scheduled in May. Filmmakers and stakeholders are expected to present their arguments before the court.
The case has drawn attention within the Kannada film industry, raising broader questions about creative liberties and legal boundaries when dealing with real-life incidents.
