Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Tuesday lashed out at Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis for his remarks that a metro project in Madurai would be launched only if BJP candidate Rama Srinivasan, contesting from Madurai South, wins.
"Is it the job of the Maharashtra chief minister to bargain and blackmail by saying that a Metro will be provided to Madurai only if a BJP MLA is elected?" Stalin asked in a post on X. "A chief minister who has taken an oath on the Constitution should be ashamed to visit an Opposition-ruled state and speak in such a manner."
Stalin also highlighted the state government's governance record, pointing to what he described as a contrast with Fadnavis' claims. "Does he know how many landmark projects the Tamil Nadu government is implementing despite the Union government's neglect in fund allocation? If not, he should ascertain the facts before speaking," he added.
Stalin reiterated the state's track record of achieving double-digit growth under the Dravidian model, claiming it had outperformed what he termed "junk engine" states in contrast to the Centre's "double engine" narrative.
Fadnavis made the remarks on Monday while BJP's Srinivasan was filing nomination papers and addressing mediapersons. The Maharashtra CM criticised DMK's governance, alleging "misrule" over the years and claiming that nearly 75% of ministers in the state Cabinet faced criminal charges.
The Maharashtra chief minister also stated that the state's debt-to-GDP ratio had crossed 33%, warning of a "debt trap" situation.
