Assembly elections: Election campaign stopped in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry, voting on 9th April

New Delhi, 7 April. The campaign for assembly elections in Assam, Kerala and Union Territory Puducherry ended on Tuesday evening. Voting will be held in a single phase in these three states on April 9 while the counting of votes will be done on May 4.

Voting will take place on this many seats

Voting will be held simultaneously on 126 assembly seats in Assam, 140 in Kerala and 30 in Puducherry. In all three states/UTs, political parties campaigned vigorously till the last moment. After the election campaign ends, leaders and candidates of various political parties will campaign through public relations till before the voting.

in assam 722 Candidates are trying their best

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), there are a total of 2.5 crore voters in Assam, which includes 1.25 crore men, 1.25 crore women and 343 third gender voters. 5.75 lakh youth in the age group of 18-19 years will vote for the first time. 722 candidates are contesting on 126 seats and the majority figure is 64.

Triangular contest in Kerala

890 candidates are in the fray for 140 seats in Kerala. To form the government here, majority of 71 seats is necessary. There are a total of 2.71 crore voters in the state, which includes 1.32 crore men, 1.39 crore women and 273 third gender voters.

in puducherry 30 Voting will be held for seats

Voting will be held on 30 assembly seats in Puducherry, out of which 5 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes. To form the government here, majority of 16 seats is necessary. Of the total 9.44 lakh voters, about 4.43 lakh are men, 5 lakh are women and 139 third gender voters.

on promotion 48 hour restrictions apply

With the end of the election campaign, a ‘silence period’ of 48 hours has come into effect under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. During this period, no political party, candidate or supporter can organize a public meeting, rally or procession.

Ban on cultural programs and advertisements

During this period, there will be a ban on music, drama or any cultural program aimed at influencing voters. Besides, a ban has also been imposed on broadcasting of election campaign material on TV, cinema and other electronic mediums.

Mandatory permission for ads

It will be mandatory to obtain prior permission from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for publishing political advertisements in newspapers a day before and on the day of voting.

Voters were made aware

Earlier, the Election Commission made voters aware through various programs so that more and more people can exercise their franchise.
