On April 7, Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan confirmed that the captain, Shubman Gill is physically fit to play their upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals, scheduled tomorrow, April 08.
At the pre-match press conference, Sai Sudharsan said,
"Shubman is fine, he is perfect, and will be back in the lineup tomorrow."
Notably, Gill missed a game for GT for the first time in 1468 days due to a neck spasm. In their last match, against Rajasthan Royals, Rashid Khan led GT, but lost it in a closely fought contest. After the match, GT assistant coach, Parthiv Patel, said in the press conference,
“Obviously, he had a neck sprain before, and he had a spasm a couple of days back. It doesn’t look like that’s serious."
This is not the first time Shubman was benched for a eck spasm. Shubman Gill, who now captains India in both the Test and ODI formats, has been carrying a demanding workload over the past year.
He was unavailable for the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati due to a neck concern, after an unfortunate outing in the Kolkata Test where he had to retire hurt just three balls into his innings.
With the IPL schedule moving at a relentless pace, managing his fitness will be crucial for Gill. Gujarat Titans will hope their skipper remains available for the majority of the season as they look to recover from a less-than-ideal beginning to their 2026 campaign.
Unbeaten Delhi Face Gill-Boosted Gujarat Titans Test
Delhi Capitals head into Wednesday’s clash against Gujarat Titans with momentum firmly on their side, having won both of their opening games to stay unbeaten in IPL 2026. Sitting second on the table with four points, DC’s rise has been powered by a disciplined bowling unit and the sensational form of Sameer Rizvi, who tops the Orange Cap race with 160 runs from just two innings.
In contrast, Gujarat Titans are still searching for their first win after two narrow defeats. Despite encouraging starts from the top order, their middle-order inconsistency has hurt them in crunch moments. Sai Sudharsan has been GT’s standout batter so far, while Prasidh Krishna leads the wicket charts for the side. With Shubman Gill declared fit again, GT will hope to finally open their account when the two teams meet at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 8.
