Eleven persons were arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly black marketing tickets during the IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5.

Police said 28 match tickets, eight mobile phones and WhatsApp screenshot printouts linked to illegal online resale attempts were seized, with the total value of the recovered material estimated at ₹4.53 lakh. The Special Enquiry Squad of the Central Crime Branch carried out the operation during the match, registering seven cases across two police station jurisdictions.

In straight numbers, the match outside the stadium had fewer overs but more inflated rates.

Raids split across two police jurisdictions

According to the police release, 10 of the 11 accused were apprehended within the Cubbon Park Police Station limits. Officials recovered seven mobile phones, 18 IPL tickets of different denominations and printouts of WhatsApp screenshots allegedly used to facilitate online resale.

One more accused was held within Chamarajapet Police Station limits, where police seized one mobile phone, 10 IPL tickets and similar screenshot printouts tied to attempted digital ticket sales.

The seven FIRs registered reflect multiple independent instances of alleged black market activity during the same fixture, indicating that the resale chain was spread rather than isolated.

Commissioner outlines next digital watch

Police said cases have now been registered at both Cubbon Park and Chamarajapet Police Stations, with further investigation underway. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said,

"They used to purchase tickets at the online rate and used to black market them at a higher price... In the future, we will also be keeping watch on social media and apps that are there and take action against those involved."

The official statement underlined that the next phase of monitoring will extend beyond physical resale points to online platforms and messaging apps. The satire stayed in the arithmetic of the seizure itself: 28 tickets, eight phones and seven cases from one game, suggesting that even before the first ball, demand had already found its own unofficial points table.
