On March 25 Guinness World Records recognized Joshua Fyksen of Las Vegas as the person who dined at the most Michelin-recognized restaurants in a single day.

Between May 9 and 10 he attempted the challenge across New York City, surpassing the previous record of 25 restaurants set in Hong Kong in 2024 by Indian duo Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Rajnish Kumar Tripathi.

Fyksen’s held the record once earlier by eating at 22 restaurants in May 2023, also in New York.

He told Guinness: “I asked friends and family if I should go for (the record) again, and I think my father put it best: ‘But I wasn’t done bragging!’. Neither was I. So I got to work.”

To improve his performance, Fyksen spent months studying the Michelin Guide, analyzing menus and websites to identify timing opportunities.

At tasting menu restaurants like Eleven Madison Park, he chose bar seats, where smaller dishes are served without reservations, even if it meant waiting a long time.

He also emailed several restaurants that do not offer a la carte service, requesting exceptions.

Some places agreed, even opening early to help, but most stuck to their policies.

According to Peopleamong the dishes he sampled, one stood out: a Jonah crab salad with apple and wasabi at Le Pavillon in Midtown.

The journey was not without setbacks. Just before arriving at Eleven Madison Park in the Flatiron district, Fyksen was caught in heavy rain.

“I must’ve looked like a drowned rat because the host briefly questioned whether I was in the right place,” he said.

But he was welcomed and even offered a complimentary cocktail.

The New York Post noted that Fyksen also took the opportunity to visit newer Michelin-starred additions, such as Shmoné in Greenwich Village, The Four Horsemen in Brooklyn and Torrisi in SoHo.

Fyksen completed his record-breaking day at Gramercy Tavern in Gramercy Park, celebrating with oysters and champagne.

To accomplish the feat, he flew from Las Vegas to New York. The total cost exceeded $1,450, including nearly $1,000 on food, plus tips and more than $470 in transportation.

The wine specialist at a prominent Las Vegas restaurant has a deep passion for culinary exploration.

He admitted the challenge left little time to savor each experience, but plans to return and enjoy them in future.
