Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Sanju Samson has been spending quality time with children in Calicut during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. After being traded from the Rajasthan Royals (RR), where he played for nine seasons, Samson is now donning the CSK jersey.
Unfortunately, his initial performance with CSK has not met expectations, as he scored just 22 runs in his first three matches against the Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, averaging only 7.33. This slow start has led to criticism from fans and analysts alike.
Samson's move to CSK followed a strong showing in the T20 World Cup 2026, where he played pivotal innings in the Super 8 match against the West Indies, the semifinal against England, and the final against New Zealand, contributing significantly to India's title defense.
Samson's Heartwarming Interaction with Kids
Reports indicate that after the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sanju Samson chose not to travel back to Chennai with the CSK squad. Instead, he returned to his home state of Kerala, where he was spotted engaging with young fans.
In a video shared by the Sanju Samson Foundation, the T20 World Cup star was seen joyfully playing cricket with local children in Calicut, sharing laughs and encouraging them during their playful interactions.
Samson not only batted but also took on the role of wicketkeeper, allowing the kids to bowl and bat while he provided support and laughter throughout their casual cricket session.
Samson's Return to Family and Friends
Following his T20 World Cup victory and being named Player of the Tournament, Sanju Samson returned to Thiruvananthapuram to spend quality time with family and friends before rejoining the CSK squad. His visit to Calicut to play with children highlights his humble nature and commitment to inspiring young cricketers.
He is expected to rejoin the CSK team ahead of their match against the Delhi Capitals in Chennai on Saturday, April 11.
Support from CSK Coach Stephen Fleming
Concerns have arisen regarding Sanju Samson's form, as he has struggled to perform in the initial matches, prompting questions about his ability to regain his rhythm before the crucial match against Delhi Capitals. However, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has come to his defense.
In a media interaction following a loss to RCB, Fleming emphasized that Samson is a vital player for CSK and that his slow start should not be a cause for alarm, noting that T20 performances can change rapidly, as demonstrated during the T20 World Cup.
Fleming stated, "In T20, things can change quickly. We saw in the T20 World Cup what can happen, and when a batter gets on a run, he's one guy who can be very dominant. He’s one guy who can be very dangerous."
He assured that the team would continue to support and instill confidence in Samson as he navigates his journey with CSK.
Upcoming Challenges for Samson
The upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals in Chennai is crucial for Sanju Samson as he aims to regain his form, validate his selection, and effectively lead CSK's batting lineup, setting a positive tone for the team's early IPL 2026 campaign.
