Jim Corbett National Park is divided into five eco-tourism zones to ensure smooth management of tourism activities within the tiger reserve. These zones—Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhela, and Durga Devi—are carefully regulated by forest officials, who conduct safari tours in two shifts across all areas.
Only a limited number of safari jeeps are allowed in each zone to maintain ecological balance and distribute tourist movement evenly. While each zone offers its own unique landscape and wildlife experience, all are part of the same ecosystem. Tiger sightings are fairly consistent across zones, with slight variations due to differences in terrain.
A visit to Corbett is a must for wildlife enthusiasts, as it remains one of India’s most popular sanctuaries, attracting visitors from across the globe. The park is divided into multiple safari zones:
Dhikala Zone: Located about 18 km from Ramnagar
Jhirna Zone: Around 16 km from Ramnagar
Bijrani Zone: Just 1 km from Ramnagar
Dhela Zone: Added as a tourism zone in 2014
Durga Devi Zone: Approximately 35 km from Ramnagar
Sitabani Buffer Zone: Ideal for those seeking peace and natural beauty
# Dhikala Zone
The Dhikala zone is the most प्रसिद्ध and sought-after area of Corbett, known for both day and night safaris as well as stays at the forest rest house. Situated on the edge of the Patli Dun valley, it is the largest zone and boasts incredible biodiversity.
Its landscape features vast grasslands (chaurs), dense Sal forests, and channels of the Ramganga River, creating breathtaking panoramic views with the Kanda ridge in the background. This zone is considered one of the best for tiger sightings. Visitors can also spot elephants, spotted deer, wild boar, hog deer, and barking deer.
# Jhirna Zone
Located on the southern edge of the park, Jhirna was added to the reserve in 1994 and has since become a favorite among tourists. It remains open throughout the year, making it one of the most accessible zones.
The area is known for frequent tiger sightings and a rich variety of wildlife. Sloth bears are a major attraction here, along with elephants, sambar, deer species, and numerous birds.
# Bijrani Zone
Bijrani is another highly popular zone, especially for day safaris. It offers stunning scenery along with excellent chances of spotting the Royal Bengal Tiger.
The terrain is similar to Dhikala, with expansive grasslands, dense Sal forests, and water streams. Its peaceful environment and diverse wildlife make it a preferred choice for visitors. Jeep safaris are the main way to explore this zone, and prior booking is required.
# Dhela Zone
Dhela is the newest eco-tourism zone in Corbett, opened for visitors in 2014. Like Jhirna, it remains open throughout the year, although safaris depend on weather conditions.
The landscape here is diverse, featuring dense forests of Sal, Haldu, Bahera, Rohini, and Kusum trees, along with grasslands and water bodies. Wildlife includes tigers, leopards, elephants, nilgai, deer, bears, reptiles, and a wide variety of birds. It is especially प्रसिद्ध for birdwatching.
# Durga Devi Zone
Situated in the northeastern part of the park, the Durga Devi zone is known for its hilly terrain and scenic beauty, making it ideal for nature lovers.
The Ramganga and Mandal rivers enhance the charm of this area. Along with tigers, visitors may spot leopards, elephants, and even otters near the Domunda Bridge.
# Sitabani Buffer Zone
The Sitabani zone lies outside the core tiger reserve and serves as a buffer area. It is open to tourists and is perfect for those seeking tranquility amidst nature.
With dense forests, river streams, and ancient temples, the zone offers a peaceful retreat. While tiger and leopard sightings are rare, herbivores like elephants, deer, sambar, and nilgai are commonly seen roaming freely.
