New Delhi: Former team captain and opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has been made the new director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). This is being seen as a hand of friendship extended by the newly appointed government of Bangladesh towards India. Experts are calling this a very tough and strategic decision of the Government of Bangladesh because the ‘anti-India’ cricket board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul has been completely dissolved.

Aminul Islam had made sports an arena of politics and mutual hatred. This was the reason why Bangladesh Cricket had withdrawn its name from T20 World Cup 2026 on the instigation of Pakistan Cricket Board. Thus, 37-year-old Tamim Iqbal became the youngest president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and he will lead the 11-member ad-hoc committee, which includes former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and former cricketer and TV commentator Athar Ali Khan.
Other members of the Bangladesh Cricket Board committee are Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjeel Choudhary, Salman Isfahani, Rafiqul Islam and Faheem Sinha.
National Sports Council (BCB) Sports Director Mohammad Aminul Ahsan said, ‘Under the responsibility of the National Sports Council, we have informed the ICC that this Board of Directors was not constituted properly and it is not able to complete its work properly. We have informed the ICC of our decision to dissolve this Board of Directors. NSC plays an important role for Bangladesh cricket or any sport in Bangladesh and on behalf of the government, therefore, we are optimistic about BCB and we are confident that ICC will definitely support this decision.
There was increasing pressure on the BCB from the Sports Ministry, which had questioned the validity of the previous board elections, Bangladesh’s absence from the recent T20 World Cup, and allegations of political interference and bias within the BCB. Last week, four directors of the board also resigned, taking the total number of resignations since January this year to six.
