Actually, 35-year-old Neelam Tanaji Shinde was originally a resident of Vadgaon (Umbraj) in Karad taluka of Satara district of Maharashtra. She had been studying for four years. She was a fourth-year student at California State University. But on the evening of 14th February last year, when she had gone out for a walk, she was hit from behind by a car driver. After which the car driver absconded. The accident was so terrible that many bones in Neelam's body were broken. She went into coma. Since then she was admitted to a hospital in California.

Neelam's mother died a year ago due to brain tumor. He is survived by his elderly father Tanaji Madhav Shinde. Those who are in bad condition while crying. The case of Neelam's accident had become an issue in the entire country, because the father wanted to go to see his daughter, but faced many difficulties in getting a visa to go to America.
