Imphal: On Tuesday, the government of Manipur announced a temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services, including Broadband, VSATs, and VPNs, across five districts for a duration of three days, according to an official statement.

The order, signed by Commissioner Home N Ashok Kumar, aims to curb the spread of misinformation and maintain public order in the affected areas.

The Home department's announcement highlighted the ongoing law and order challenges in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur, prompting the government to take this precautionary measure.

This decision follows a tragic incident in Bishnupur district where two children lost their lives and their mother sustained injuries due to a bomb attack, leading to local protests.

The attack occurred around 1 AM when suspected militants targeted a residence in the Moirang Tronglaobi area, resulting in the deaths of a 5-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl, as reported by a senior police officer.

Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh condemned the attack, labeling it a 'barbaric act' and vowed that those responsible would face justice.

At the time of the explosion, the children and their mother were asleep in their bedroom, according to police reports.

In response to the tragedy, local residents organized protests, setting fire to two oil tankers and a truck near a petrol station, while also burning tyres in front of the Moirang Police Station and damaging a temporary police outpost.

To manage the escalating situation, security forces have been deployed in the region, with additional protests reported in various parts of Imphal.
