A bizarre incident has emerged from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, where a couple was seen visiting rental properties under false pretenses. The couple would enter homes with a cheerful demeanor, claiming they were in search of a good place to live. However, once they left, the homeowners were left in distress. This particular case took place in Ram Colony on Nehru Road, where a widow was robbed in broad daylight. The woman was alone at home when a man and a woman entered, pretending to be interested in renting the property, and then stole her jewelry before fleeing.
The victim, Shakuntala Jain, shared that she lives alone. Her husband, Jagdish Jain, passed away around 15 years ago, and their only son, Praveen, works in a private firm in Delhi. On Friday afternoon, while she was resting at home, the duo knocked on her door, claiming they wanted to see a rental property.
Thinking they might be in need, Shakuntala opened the door. The pair feigned interest in the house but suddenly attacked her, snatching a gold chain from her neck and earrings from her ears. They threatened her, warning that if she reported the incident or contacted the police, they would kill her.
Terrified, Shakuntala managed to step outside and informed her neighbors about the robbery. The residents quickly alerted the police. The robbers were captured on the CCTV cameras installed in the colony as they fled, and the footage has since gone viral on social media, creating a climate of fear in the area.
Vijay Kumar, the area police chief, stated that a police team was dispatched to the scene immediately. They have contacted the victim and will file a report once they receive her formal complaint. He also mentioned that efforts are underway to identify the suspects using the CCTV footage, and they expect to apprehend them soon.
