The IPL 2026 fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings was abandoned at the Eden Gardens due to rain. Only 3.4 overs of play were possible before the game was called off, with both sides receiving one point. While the match may not have delivered many thrills on the field, Shreyas Iyer's sister, Shresta Iyer made an instant hit on social media for a viral post.
Shresta posted an Instagram reel immediately after the wash-out which went viral in no time. In the video, she made a funny comment in Punjabi, "Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point" which translates to a Punjabi person having a big heart, thus giving away one point. The comment was deemed as a sarcastic dig towards the Knight Riders as Shreyas Iyer led them to an IPL title in the previous season of 2024.

Rain Halts the match, KKR struggling
On the field, it was one of the worst days for the KKR franchise before rain intervened. After winning the toss, Ajinkya Rahane decided to bat first but his team faltered after Punjab Kings bowled exceptional with the ball in the beginning. Xavier Bartlett accounted for two wickets in the second over of the innings by dismissing Finn Allen and Cameron Green on 6 and 4 respectively.
At the time of abandonment of the match, KKR were 25-2 after 3.4 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi was batting on 7, and Rahane was on 8. Despite the match officials waiting and the pitch being inspected several times, rain did not stop and the outfield became wet and it was declared that the game would not continue, resulting in the first washed out match of IPL 2026.
The match had mixed reactions for both the sides. The Knight Riders received their first point of the season after registering two consecutive losses in their previous matches and are currently at the 8th position in the points table with 1 point in 3 matches and a NRR of -1.964.
However, the Punjab Kings continued their form this season as they have registered 2 wins and 1 no result which makes them to the 1st spot in the points table with 5 points in 3 matches.
The next match for Kolkata Knight Riders will be against Lucknow Super Giants on April 9 whereas Punjab Kings will play Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11 in Mullanpur.
