Recently Divya Dutta’s serial ‘Chiraiya’ was released on the OTT platform, dealing with serious topics like marital rape, post-marital coercion, patriarchy and women’s consent. The series shocked everyone and started a discussion on social media about women’s consent and coercion after marriage. The honeymoon scene, where Arun forces himself on his wife, was heartbreaking. Siddharth Shaw, who played the role, faced a lot of criticism and hate on social media for the marital rape scene. People said a lot of bad things. However, Siddharth was shaking a lot and cried while filming that scene.

This was revealed by Siddharth’s co-actress in the web series ‘Chiraiya’. In an interview to Film Gyan, she said, “When we were shooting the first take of the honeymoon scene, Siddharth started crying. He was shaking and crying. We stopped shooting for a while and waited for him to feel better, and then we started shooting again.”

When Siddharth was asked about it, he said, “I don’t know what emotion it was when I cried. It would have been better if I had known. We had already rehearsed. It was like a choreography. I knew it was acting, but what happened to me at that moment, what emotion I felt, I still don’t know.” According to Siddharth, the mere thought of that scene made him shiver and his condition worsened.

Meanwhile, Prasanna revealed that there was an intimacy coordinator on the sets and extreme security precautions were taken. Prasanna explained that he had practiced the scene thoroughly before shooting. It was like a choreography, a process that required acting. Prasanna said that she and Siddharth had known each other for five-six years, so they were very comfortable with each other. However, when it came time to shoot the heartbreaking scene of marital rape, Siddharth started shaking and crying.

‘Chiraiya’ was released on 20th March on OTT platform Jio Hotstar. It stars Tinnu Anand, Faisal Rashid and Sarita Joshi in lead roles along with Divya Dutta, Prasanna Bisht, Siddharth Shaw and Sanjay Mishra.
