Ayushman Bharat Yojana: The Government of India operates several schemes aimed at providing better healthcare facilities to the poor and needy across the country. One of the most significant among these is the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). Under this scheme, every family is provided with medical coverage of up to ₹5 lakh annually.

The government bears the entire cost of treatment, thereby relieving individuals of any financial burden. To avail the benefits of this scheme, one must obtain an Ayushman Card. However, reports occasionally surface indicating that, despite possessing an Ayushman Card, certain hospitals refuse to admit patients or provide them with treatment. In such a scenario, let us understand what steps you can take to address the situation.

**What to Do If a Hospital Refuses Treatment?**
If a hospital is empanelled under the scheme but still refuses to provide treatment, you can immediately file an online complaint. To do so:

You must visit the PMJAY Grievance Portal.
Here, you need to select the 'Register Your Grievance' option and fill in the necessary details.
Once the complaint is registered, the concerned department investigates the matter; if any wrongdoing is detected, appropriate action is taken against the hospital.

**Complaints Can Also Be Filed via Phone or App**
If you prefer not to use the online process, the government has also provided a toll-free helpline number—14555—where you can register a complaint by making a phone call.
Additionally, for those who prefer digital methods, the UMANG app serves as a very convenient option. Within the app, you can navigate to the 'Ayushman Bharat' section and file a complaint through the 'Grievance Redressal' feature.

**Keep These Points in Mind**
To strengthen your complaint, ensure you keep certain essential documents and details handy, such as:

A copy of your Ayushman Card.
Any slips or documents issued by the hospital.
Photographic or video evidence, if available.
Details regarding any conversations held with the doctor or hospital staff.
After filing a complaint, you will receive a unique grievance number; make sure to note this down. If no action is taken within the stipulated timeframe, you can use this same number to follow up on your complaint.
