The Bangladesh Cricket Board has introduced a groundbreaking piece of equipment which will change how net practice operates throughout the nation. For the first time Bangladesh has brought in a spin bowling machine which will help players prepare for their upcoming international and domestic matches.
The Bengal Tigers have often been seen as a side that lacks modern training equipment. The team now uses batting technology which top cricket teams worldwide use to develop their batting abilities during practice sessions. India uses various spin bowling machines for training and commercial use while Bangladesh's neighboring country has maintained this practice for many years.
Bangladesh now possesses an advanced AI-powered two-wheel and three-wheel machine which can simulate leg spin off-spin and flighted deliveries from leading manufacturers.
The spin bowling machines operate through their two or three independent spinning wheels which control both the ball delivery speed and its release angle to create different bowling patterns. The system allows players and coaches to adjust settings through both manual and automatic methods.
The machine begins operation when the ball enters the chute because the rubber wheels secure the ball which the machine then launches toward the batter. India has used this technology for years, with countries like New Zealand, Australia, England, and South Africa also depending on it for a long time. The BCB has introduced this device for the first time in the country, and the equipment is called Merlyn by BOLA.
The team first used the machine on Monday during a national skill camp at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, ahead of the important New Zealand series. Bangladesh used to depend on pace bowling machines for their practice sessions which focused on seam deliveries and short-pitched deliveries until they acquired this new equipment.

The team accomplished its objective of establishing a spin bowling practice system through this new equipment. The board acquired the machine for approximately 16 lakh Taka which equals about £10,000 according to a BCB official. The team considers this equipment to be one of its most essential training investments.
The manufacturer claims this device stands among the most advanced and accurate spin bowling training tools in the world which Henry Pryor invented. Stuart and Williams developed the next-generation model for the England and Wales Cricket Board which enables players to enhance their batting skills against spin bowling.
Bangladesh now prepares for the New Zealand tour which begins on April 17 after they exited the T20 World Cup 2026 tournament. New Zealand will tour Bangladesh for three ODI matches and three T20I matches which will conclude on May 2. The first two ODIs and third T20I will take place in Mirpur while Chattogram will host the other matches.
