New Delhi: A news has become viral in which a father has welcome her daughter with great pomp after she divorced her husband. The woman in question, Pranita, divorced her husband, Major Gaurav, on Monday. Her father, a retired judge, welcomed her home with the same pomp and show he displayed during her wedding. Family members distributed sweets and welcomed their daughter with garlands of flowers.

Pranita’s in-laws then spoke to Dainik Bhaskar and narrated their version of the story. Major Gaurav Agnihotri, who lived with his son for only three years in a seven-year marriage, is the son of a retired army man named Shyam Kishore, who is associated with a farmers’ organization. He is also a village head. Gaurav’s mother, Anita Agnihotri, is a homemaker, while his younger brother is an engineer in the army.

What has Shyam Kishore said?

“On March 7, 2025, my daughter-in-law Pranita gave birth to a son. His grandson’s mundan ceremony was scheduled for November, but Pranita’s father, Gyanendra, performed the mundan ceremony without informing my family. This sparked a dispute. The dispute escalated to the point of divorce,” said Shyam Kishore of Meerut.

Shyam Kishore explained, “Gaurav was married to Pranita Sharma, the daughter of retired judge Gyanendra Sharma, in 2018. Pranita’s parents had been very interfering since the wedding. After just one year, Pranita started quarreling. Her family provoked her and escalated the dispute.”

How the marriage hit rock-bottom

Pranita and Gaurav had been married for seven years. However, they lived with their son for barely three to four years. In 2019, Gaurav was charged with three cases in Allahabad, Delhi, and Bareilly. Despite this, Gaurav reached a compromise and began living with Pranita.

Shyam Kishore said, “A dispute arose over not being invited to my grandson’s tonsure ceremony, and we faced legal trouble. Pranita refused to allow me and my son to celebrate any festivals together. On March 7, 2025, Pranita gave birth to a son, who was named Ojaswa Agnihotri.”

Gaurav explained that his son’s tonsure ceremony was scheduled for November, but Pranita’s father, Gyanendra, performed Ojaswa’s tonsure ceremony without informing Gaurav and his father, Shyam Kishore. This sparked a dispute, and the fight escalated. The matter even reached the point of divorce.

Major Gaurav’s mother and Pranita’s mother-in-law said, “My husband served in the Army, and both of my sons have also served in the Army. Such cases have a negative impact on the Army’s image. Our grandson has been separated from them.”

Pranita and her family share photos that prevent the child from recognizing his grandparents. Their goal is to establish themselves as the child’s “real parents,” while denying the grandparents the right to love their grandchild.

What has Pranita’s family alleged?

Finance Director at Pranita Judicial Academy, Meerut, Pranita Sharma is the Finance Director at the Pranav Vashisht Judicial Academy in Shastri Nagar. She holds a postgraduate degree in psychology. Pranita married Army Major Gaurav Agnihotri from Shahjahanpur on December 14, 2018. Gaurav is currently posted in Jalandhar.

The court granted the divorce. Meanwhile, Pranita Sharma’s father, Gyanendra Sharma, is a retired judge. Gyanendra Sharma has said that her in-laws’ behavior has been unfavorable ever since the marriage. Over the past seven years, her daughter has endured numerous problems. Her husband and family members began harassing her. Even after the birth of a child, the situation remained unchanged.

She was allegedly subjected to mental, physical, and emotional harassment by her in-laws. This ultimately led Pranita to decide to seek divorce. She filed a petition in the Meerut Family Court. On April 4th, the court granted the divorce. Following this, the family brought their daughter, Pranita Sharma, back home with full respect. Pranita and Gaurav have a one-year-old son, who is now with Pranita.
