The enthusiasm of cricket lovers at Kolkata’s historic Eden Gardens cooled down when rain spoiled the fun of the match. The match being played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings under IPL 2026 suddenly stopped and was ultimately cancelled. The spectators had bought tickets at a heavy price, but they did not get a chance to watch the entire match. In such a situation, the biggest question that arises is, will the ticket money be refunded?

The match started on time and both the teams had also started the game. But after just 3.4 overs it started raining heavily. The field was covered and play had to be stopped. The fans hoped that the rain would stop and the match would start again, but it did not happen. After a long wait, at around 11 pm the officials decided to cancel the match. Since the match could not be completed, as per the rules both the teams were given one point each. This decision may have been good for the teams, but it was disappointing for the spectators, because they could not see their favorite players playing.

Will I get ticket refund?

Now let’s talk about the most important question – will the ticket money be refunded or not? Actually, according to IPL rules, if a match is canceled without even a single ball being bowled, then the spectators get almost the entire money back. However, a small administrative fee is deducted from this. But some overs had been played in this match. Even in such a situation, it is a matter of relief that the match could not be completed in 5 overs. According to IPL rules, if less than 5 overs are played and the match is cancelled, then the spectators are entitled to a full refund.

How much money will you get back?

Spectators are likely to get about 80 to 90 percent of their ticket money back. Some part of this can be deducted as administrative charge. Although no official announcement has been made yet, the same is expected based on past experience.

When will I get the refund?

Usually in such cases the ticket money is refunded within 7 to 10 days. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the respective franchises try to complete this process on time, so that the spectators do not face much trouble.

Even though the fans may have been disappointed by the cancellation of the match, the possibility of getting a refund may definitely give them some relief. In previous seasons too, viewers have got their money back in such cases. Therefore, this time also it is expected that the fans will definitely get their rights.
