Desk: Amidst the Iran war, the entire world could receive significant relief regarding gas supplies. In fact, for the first time since the war, two Qatari ships have been cleared to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) granted this clearance to the Qatari ships following a deal between Tehran and Doha. These two Qatari ships will transit through Hormuz carrying LNG. The clearance for Qatari ships means there will no longer be a global gas shortage.
According to Kpler data, two Qatari ships, the Rasida and the Al Daayeen, loaded with LNG, have been spotted moving towards Hormuz. Both ships will transit Hormuz and then proceed to the Gulf of Oman. They will then proceed to their respective countries to deliver their orders.
Qatar supplies approximately 19 percent of the world’s total gas. In 2024, Qatar supplied 77.23 million metric tons of gas. Countries like India, China, and Pakistan purchase gas from Qatar. Qatar also supplies gas to most European countries.
Qatar supplies gas to the entire world through the Strait of Hormuz. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has worsened the situation for countries that receive gas from Qatar. Now, with the resumption of Qatari ships through the Strait of Hormuz, global gas supplies may return to normal.
However, Iran has not yet stated how long Qatari ships will be allowed to transit through Hormuz. Neither Qatar nor Iran has issued any official comment.
