In an era where pop music often revolves around catchy melodies and transient trends, Ipsitaa is establishing a unique niche that is both intimate and impactful. Her latest single, 'Burn It Down,' marks a significant evolution in her artistry, as she uses her platform to inspire reflection rather than just entertain.

Ipsitaa explains, "This is my inaugural song aimed at delivering a social message. It resonates deeply with me while also reflecting the collective struggles women face across various sectors." This track, which tackles the issue of gender inequality, represents a departure from the lively, youthful tunes she is typically associated with. "It was a bold move," she acknowledges. "I've been recognized for my fun and quirky songs, but I believe artists have a duty to address challenging and often taboo subjects. As a woman, if I don't take a stand, who will?"

Amplifying Voices Through Music

For Ipsitaa, the motivation behind her music transcends her personal narrative. She aims to amplify the voices of those often unheard. "We are still quite privileged," she reflects. "This song is an effort to highlight the stories of women who remain in the shadows—those who support families and those enduring hardships in conflict zones."

A Shift in Perspective

Interestingly, this newfound clarity of purpose was not always part of her vision. Growing up in a family focused on academics, with her father in civil services and her mother a physician, the arts were merely hobbies. "My mother enrolled me in Kathak and classical music classes at a young age. My brother and I were always performing, but it was never considered a viable career path," she recalls.

This perspective began to shift during her college years. Surrounded by aspiring professionals in the arts, she started to view her passion differently. "People around me questioned why I was pursuing double majors in economics and psychology instead of music and film," she shares. "That’s when I realized this could be more than just a hobby."

Navigating Career Choices

However, the transition to a full-time music career was gradual. Even after she began sharing her music online through covers and mashups, Ipsitaa continued to follow a traditional career path. "I worked in behavioral science and consulting, which I genuinely enjoyed," she states. "This made my decision to switch careers even more challenging. I wasn't escaping something; I loved both fields."

Her full-time commitment to music came about a year and a half ago. "Letting go of a steady paycheck is daunting," she admits. "As an artist, the uncertainty of when your next project or payment will arrive can be overwhelming. It’s not as glamorous as it appears."

Advice for Aspiring Artists

Her candidness extends to offering guidance for young individuals facing similar crossroads. "You need to understand your tolerance for risk," she advises. "If you require stability, this path may be tough. However, if you possess the passion and are ready to take risks, now is an exhilarating time to pursue a career in the arts."

Academic Foundations and Musical Breakthrough

This blend of passion and practicality also characterizes her educational journey. Ipsitaa attended the esteemed Yale University and later the London School of Economics, experiences she describes as life-changing. "It’s not merely about the prestige; it’s about the connections you make and the discussions you engage in. Those years broadened my horizons immensely."

Yet, even amidst her academic achievements, music continued to beckon. Her breakthrough arrived with 'First Kiss,' featuring Yo Yo Honey Singh—a song that propelled her into the limelight. "That track transformed my life overnight," she reflects. "I am incredibly thankful he recognized my potential and offered me that chance."

Exploring New Musical Horizons

Since then, Ipsitaa has delved into various musical genres. "When I began composing my own music, everything shifted. It became about expressing my own thoughts and feelings," she explains. This evolution is culminating in her debut album, with 'Burn It Down' setting the stage. Themes of independence, identity, and self-worth resonate throughout her work, mirroring earlier songs like 'Solo Laila,' which encourages women to prioritize self-love. "It’s about valuing yourself before loving anyone else," she emphasizes.

Venturing into Film

In addition to her music career, Ipsitaa is also making her foray into acting, collaborating with filmmaker Omung Kumar. While she remains tight-lipped about specifics, she shares, "Transitioning from stage to screen acting is a different experience—it's technical in a new way. However, I’ve learned a lot and am eager to see where this journey leads."

Finding Her Place

Now residing in Mumbai, Ipsitaa feels she has finally discovered her rhythm. "Initially, I wasn't fond of it," she admits. "But once you find your community, it truly feels like home."
