KKR vs PBKS IPL 2026: What is the Cut-Off Time for a Five-Over Match After Rain?
Cricket Gully | April 7, 2026 1:39 AM CST

The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings was brought to a halt due to rain at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday evening during their IPL 2026 clash. The hosts were on 25 for two in 3.4 overs before the downpour made the ground unplayable.

Xavier Bartlett managed to pick up two wickets for the visitors early in the innings by dismissing both Finn Allen and Cameron Green and was in the attacking side.

The Kolkata Knight Riders are chasing their first two points in this edition of the IPL having lost their opening two matches, and with the wickets and Green's current form, the chase now looks to be an even bigger challenge. Green has been in terrible form in this season of IPL 2026 as he could only make 18 off 10 balls, then 2 off two balls and four off two balls against PBKS tonight.

What is the Five Over Match Cut-Off Time?

The official playing conditions state that matches scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm should finish at 10:50 pm. There is an allowance of an extra 60 minutes over and above this schedule for any delays such as rain and other interruptions. A five over game should therefore be completed by 11:50 pm on any such scheduled evenings.

It is the responsibility of the umpires to determine how many overs would be needed for a shortened game at the 11:50 pm deadline. However, the cut-off time for KKR vs PBKS at Eden Gardens is 11:14 pm, as stated by the officials.

The rules set to accommodate the teams with the amount of time allowed for a full game and also fit it in with practical scheduling constraints. Standard overs batting and bowling rules will apply with just a reduction in the overs permitted in the event of an interruption to the play.

The rest of the Kolkata batting lineup of Rovman Powell, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Navdeep Saini, Vaibhav Arora and Kartik Tyagi is still waiting to come out to bat as the rain continues to fall, whilst Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Bartlett had taken the first two KKR wickets in the interrupted innings giving their team a head start over their opponents.
