In response to the escalating issue of substance abuse among the youth, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) is set to host a ‘Run Against Chitta’ marathon in Mandi on April 9, 2026. This event coincides with their foundation day and aims to promote social awareness.
The marathon, spanning 5 kilometers, will kick off at 6:30 AM from Seri Manch, traversing key locations such as Bhimakali Bridge, Victoria Bridge, and Chauhata Bazaar, before returning to the starting point. Organizers are diligently preparing to ensure the event runs smoothly.
According to District President Anit Jaswal, this initiative is more than just a sporting competition; it is a campaign aimed at raising awareness about the severe repercussions of drug abuse while fostering a culture of fitness and responsible living among the youth.
To incentivize participation, cash prizes of ₹3,100, ₹2,100, and ₹1,100 will be awarded to the top three finishers. Additionally, medals will be given to participants finishing in fourth to tenth place, and all registered participants will receive certificates and refreshments.
NSUI leaders have underscored the pressing nature of the drug abuse crisis, particularly the rise of ‘chitta’, which poses a significant social threat in the area. They believe that substantial change can only occur through active engagement from the community, especially the younger generation.
The organization is urging students, young professionals, and residents of Mandi to join in large numbers to support the anti-drug initiative, reinforcing the vision of a healthier, drug-free society.
