New Delhi: Manchester City assistant manager Pep Lijnders has revealed that Bernardo Silva will leave at the end of the ongoing season. His contract with the club will expire in June 2026. The midfielder has not signed an extension and has been heavily linked with La Liga topper Barcelona, Serie A club Juventus, and a few American clubs.

Manchester City’s assistant manager hoped that Bernardo enjoyed the last few weeks at the club and said that he deserves all the attention.

“When he is not playing, you will see how he is missed, and that’s one game. But every good story comes to an end, and I hope he enjoys the last months – there are only six weeks – and has a good farewell. He deserves all that attention as well,” Lijnders said.

Silva joined Manchester City from Monaco in July 2017 and has been a crucial player in Pep Guardiola’s successful team. He has won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups, the Champions League and two FIFA World Cups.

The midfielder made his 450th appearance for the club in Saturday’s victory against Liverpool, while the recent Carabao Cup win was his 18th title with City. Guardiola is a long-time admirer of the Portuguese international and made him captain of the club after Kevin de Bruyne’s departure at the end of the last season.

“You never replace a player with the same kind of player because they don’t exist. Bernardo Silva is unique. The way he controls games, the way he moves, the way he receives, the way he leads, the way he sees the solutions. All these things, he added.

Manchester City will face Chelsea in their next Premier League game on April 12, and are placed second in the standings with 61 points in 30 matches. They will face Southampton in the semifinal of the FA Cup on April 25.
