Arshdeep Singh on Brink of Special Record for Punjab Kings vs KKR in IPL 2026
Cricket Gully | April 6, 2026 8:39 PM CST

Arshdeep Singh, the fast bowler for Punjab Kings, is on the verge of creating a record in the history of the Indian Premier League. The left-arm pacer is only three wickets away from completing 100 IPL wickets, a landmark he might reach during the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Since his IPL debut in 2019, Arshdeep has become a vital part of the PBKS team. After playing only a few matches in his first two seasons, the 25-year-old has now become a permanent fixture in the playing XI, now featuring in his 8th consecutive season for the franchise.

In the 83 matches he has played so far, Arshdeep has picked up 97 wickets with an average of 27.35 and an economy of 9.03. His strike rate stands at 18.1. He has managed one five-wicket haul in his IPL career.

If Arshdeep takes three wickets against KKR, he will become the first bowler in the history of Punjab Kings to take 100 wickets, which is even more significant given how few players have been able to stay with the franchise for so long.

Arshdeep set to become first PBKS bowler to reach 100 wickets

A few other bowlers have previously got close to the 100-wicket mark for PBKS but have failed to do so; Piyush Chawla had 84, Sandeep Sharma 73, Axar Patel 69 and Mohammed Shami 58.

Now the first position on this list will be occupied by Arshdeep, who is only three short of it. He picked up 21 wickets in the last season from 16 matches with an average of 24.66.

This proves how consistent Arshdeep has been for his team season after season. All eyes will be on him during the upcoming fixture against KKR as only three wickets stand between him and this record.

Form concerns ahead of landmark chance

Although a significant record is at his disposal, the recent form of the left-arm seamer has been a major concern for Punjab Kings. He hasn't been able to pick a single wicket in the current IPL 2026 season so far.

He has managed to take only one wicket in his last five T20 fixtures. His previous wicket came against England in the T20 World Cup semi-final, where he conceded 51 runs as well.

With PBKS winning their last two games, the team isn't feeling much pressure, but if the Punjab Kings bowlers continue to be hit all around the park and the same is the case with Arshdeep, he could be questioned regarding his form.

This match against KKR could prove to be crucial for Arshdeep as this game isn't only about breaking a major record but also about making a comeback into form and contributing to his team with the ball.
