Indian players starred in the revealed nominees list for the ICC Player of the Month award (men’s) for March 2026.
The month of March saw the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, with India lifting their third title, becoming the first team to do so.
The Men In Blue also became the first team in the men’s T20 World Cup history to win the championship on home soil and to win two consecutive trophies.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian contingent had clean swept Group A but were humbled by South Africa in their first Super 8 game. The hosts bounced back and won four matches in a row: vs Zimbabwe and West Indies in Super 8, vs England in the semi-final, and vs New Zealand in the final.
Opener Sanju Samson bagged the Man of the Tournament award as he produced three half-centuries in a row against West Indies (in what was a virtual quarter-final), England, and New Zealand.
Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah won the Man of the Final award for his excellent figures of 4/15 against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. He also ended up being the joint-highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup.
Following the T20 World Cup, a few teams were involved in bilateral series. This included South Africa touring New Zealand for five T20Is and Bangladesh hosting Pakistan for a three-ODI rubber.
Who are the nominees for ICC Player Of The Month for March 2026?
For the ICC Player Of The Month for March, the ICC has named these three nominees: Sanju Samson, Jasprit Bumrah, and South Africa’s Connor Esterhuizen.
Sanju Samson
Samson is the frontrunner to clinch the ICC Player Of The Month award for March 2026, as his scores of 97*, 89, and 89 during the T20 World Cup all happened in March. Samson went from being on the bench when the tournament started to earning the Player of the Tournament award.
The right-hander also climbed into the top 20 of the men’s ICC T20I batting rankings.
jasprit bumrah
Bumrah’s performance against England in the semi-final was one for the ages: in a game where 499 runs were scored, Bumrah returned with figures of 1/33; his 16th and 18th overs of England’s innings, wherein he conceded only 14 runs combined, were pivotal in the eventual result falling in India’s favor.
On either side of this semifinal, Bumrah registered figures of 2/36 against West Indies and 4/15 against New Zealand.
Connor Esterhuizen
Meanwhile, South African wicketkeeper-batsman Connor Esterhuizen announced himself to international cricket through an impressive T20I series in New Zealand. In five games, he scored 200 runs at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 146.
In the series-deciding fifth T20I, Esterhuizen struck a match-winning 75 (33) as the Proteas claimed the rubber by a 3-2 scoreline. He scored double the runs anyone else did in the series and duly earned the Man of the Series award.
