Chikkamagaluru: A 27-year-old youth who had come to attend his friend’s wedding died after drowning in the Bhadra river in Bannuru village of the taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Abhishek, a native of Gadag district.
Incident details
Abhishek had come to Bannuru village in N R Pura taluk for his friend’s wedding. He was staying at a resort near the Bhadra river. On Sunday evening, he reportedly entered the river for a swim but was swept away by the strong current and went missing.
Search operation
On receiving information, police from Balehonnur Police Station and local residents began a search operation on Sunday evening. The operation was stopped due to darkness.
The search resumed on Monday morning with the help of police, fire and emergency services, and local swimmers. The body of Abhishek was later recovered.
A case has been registered at Balehonnur Police Station.
