Bengaluru: City police in Bengaluru are preparing a dedicated database to track recent cases involving bike taxi drivers, especially those linked to sexual assault and safety concerns.
Officials said similar databases are also being developed for gig workers, including delivery agents and cab drivers, to monitor such incidents more closely.
The move comes after a recent case in which a driver associated with Rapido was accused of sexually assaulting a passenger. Police have taken the incident seriously and are now focusing on safety and operational practices followed by bike taxi drivers.
Currently, companies such as Rapido, Uber, and Ola provide bike taxi services in the city.
Police said a separate database will help in reviewing and analysing such cases efficiently. A meeting with stakeholders is expected to be held soon.
Safety features under review
Officials noted that ride-hailing platforms have introduced multiple safety features. These include real-time tracking with live location sharing, an SOS button for emergency assistance, and 24x7 access to support channels.
Authorities said that safety protocols across major aggregator platforms are largely similar, and monitoring mechanisms are being strengthened to ensure passenger security.
