Five men harass Japanese tourist near Jaipur’s Jaigarh Fort, police launch probe

New Delhi: Jaipur which is known as the ‘Pink City’ on the world’s tourism map, is well known for its hospitality and the tradition of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’, is facing global embarrassment these days due to some anti-social elements. In the last 24 hours a Japanese tourist was harassed by five men near Jaipur’s Jaigarh fort, as per information shared by the police. The police said that the suspects fled after the incident, and the search is ongoing.

Amer police station house officer said, Gotam Dotsara said, “The incident took place at around 8 am on Monday when she was heading towards the Ganeshji temple in Jaigarh fort. Soon after the incident, she started screaming and the accused ran away.”

It is alleged that the miscreants not only blocked her path but also forcibly held her hand and molested her. The woman managed to escape safely after she raised an alarm and ran away, but the incident has instilled fear in the minds of foreign tourists.

Police probe underway

The officer said that the woman immediately informed a guard about the incident, who helped to reach the nearby station. After reaching the police station, she filed a complaint against the five men. The police rushed to the spot and started to investigate.

The police have collected CCTV footage of the five men walking down the hill after the incident. The team is still searching for the culprits, and the woman has been sent back to her hostel safely. Further probe is underway.

Nine days ago, another video of a foreign women being harassed in Jaipur. Under the pretext of taking a selfie, young men pulled her towards them by putting their hands around her neck. The young men even made a video and shared it on social media.

Adverse impact on tourism

This is not just one incident that has happened in the city, but a series of such incidents have taken place in the last month, which is changing the city’s image from ‘tourist friendly’ to ‘unsafe city’.
