'I'm Not a Machine': Mohammed Shami's Honest Take After 2/9 Spell vs SRH in IPL 2026

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had great help on IPL 2026 when senior pacer Mohammed Shami was performing outstanding against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on April 5.

 

The 35-year-old performed like a pro with the ball by taking two wickets only with 9 runs in four overs. He also managed to bowl 18 dots which made scoring for SRH batsmen quite difficult with the match being a T20, usually runs are flowing.

 

Shami provided a terrific start by picking up the wicket of Abhishek Sharma for a duck in the very first over and scalped Travis Head in the third over of the match putting pressure over SRH.

 

Smart Bowling with Experience

 

Apart from just relying on pace Shami used his wit to take these wickets. He mixed up his pace well and his line and length were impeccable. He was able to utilize the pitch and make sure to bowl with great intelligence.

 

Mohammed Shami explained:

 

"The pitch was slow, a bit sticky. But when it comes to line and length on the new ball is very important. If you give it wide and on the fuller side, they will surely smash it for boundaries."

 

Mohammed Shami added:

 

"You have to adapt, it's important to take wickets. I was here last year and was used to a lot of slower balls. All the opponents uses it a lot and thought why not we used it as well."

 

Shami used slower balls and change in pace quite effective to trouble the batsmen not letting them get to dominate him and use of his experience at the Hyderabad ground was also an important aspect.

Shami stays humble and believes in preparations

 

Despite such a phenomenal bowling spell, Shami remained very humble about his form. He confessed about the fluctuations he had in his form at various points.

 

he said:

 

"I am not a machine and there will always be ups and downs in my season. In last few years, I have done my best performance and even if people have not noticed it does not mean that my form has dropped. I always try to produce the best in any condition."

 

Shami also talked about being fit and playing domestic matches to stay in touch with the sport.

 

"If you want to play, then it's important to be in touch with the game and when you're fit, then you can actually improve your skills. That is why I was keeping myself in touch with the game by playing all the domestic matches".

 

He also praised the team environment and his bonding with the coach Bharat Arun.

 

"We have good bonding with everyone. Lucknow feels like my second home now. So, it takes only very little time to match up".

 

The victory for LSG was quite significant since they managed to register their first win of the season after their opening fixture loss Shami said:

 

"We have lost our previous game and hence winning this game was extremely important to build some momentum",
