Bengaluru: Two construction workers died on the spot after being hit by a speeding bike near Vidyashilpa Cross on the Bengaluru–Ballari Road early Sunday morning, under the limits of Yelahanka Traffic Police Station.

The deceased have been identified as Shantappa (35) and Siddharth (19), both from Sedam taluk of Kalaburagi district.

According to traffic police, the accident occurred near the Vidyashilpa Cross bus stop. The two men, who were staying in a rented house in Allalasandra and working as construction labourers, had returned to Bengaluru from Hyderabad by a private bus early Sunday.

After getting down near the cross, they were walking home and attempting to cross the road when a speeding bike hit them, leading to their death on the spot.

Preliminary information suggests that the negligence of the private bus driver and the high speed of the biker contributed to the accident. The bus driver is said to have dropped the passengers near the cross before the flyover instead of using the service road.

Further investigation is underway.
